  • Just want to alert you to the Discord server. You'd be an admin if you joined (if you wanted, of course). There are no strings attached to the position, it's more a title to let people know that you are (possibly) more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the Wiki.

  • So, a little while ago you made a change that automatically places the "This talk page is for discussing improvements and not for general discussion" template at the top of talk pages, which is great. However, I recently noticed that it doesn't work on anything other than pages in the normal "Talk:" namespace, so pages like Film talk:Murray Hippo and Walkthrough talk:A Stealthy Approach don't have the template.

Sorry to bother you about it, but it would be great if you could change this or at least point me in the right direction to do it myself. Thanks!

    • Hey, sorry for the late response. I made the change which you can see here - as of the time I'm writing it still needs to be approved by Staff. To explain, it was a matter of adding the walkthrough talk [ns-113] and film talk [ns-115] namespaces alongside the main talk namespace [ns-1] (in jQuery / JavaScript, the pair of brackets functions as an "or"). As for how I knew the id numbers associated with the namespaces, this gives a list of all of them. Hope this helps.

    • Awesome, thank you. And no worries on response time.

  • Hey,

It seems like the only time I message you is when I have a question about a template... Sorry.

Anyway, so Template:Collectibles WT is used on several walkthrough pages (not as much as it should be) but it has issues with placement. If you just put it in a page, it acts like an image and tries to work around infoboxes and other elements. I was just wondering if it is possible to

    1. Make it "snap" to the bottom of infoboxes, rather than trying to sit next to them (perhaps by forcing it to align to the right side of the page or something?), and
    2. Make it the same width as the infobox, so it doesn't look out of place.

Walkthrough:I Smell a Rat uses it, and you can see how I made it go under the infobox, which even still doesn't look that great, I just didn't want to use another {{clear}} and push the videos even further down the page.

If we can somehow put the template into the infobox (below the "Real World Information" section), that would be even better.

If you don't know how to do stuff like that, that's totally fine; it's just that I don't know much about MediaWiki stuff myself, and you're probably the only active user that does. (Yech, that makes it sound so obligatory...)

    Thanks again.

    • No worries lol. Numbers one and two have been done; however, the template should be placed right after the infobox to ensure that it will be positioned properly. As for having the template inside the infobox, that is possible. If we did that we wouldn't need to use the CollectiblesWT template anymore and could instead place the mask/trophy boxes directly inside the infobox (this is what it would look like).

Even though it's been four years since I actually edited an article, I wanted to give my thought on this; perhaps it would be better to include the information about Sly Masks in the infobox (within the "In-Game Information" section) but the information about trophies under a separate section header? The trophy box only mentions the name of the trophy, but by giving the trophies their own section, we'll also be able to include the descriptions and info on how exactly to obtain them. It would also keep the infobox from being too long, which is good since it means less scrolling (on mobile) to get to the actual walkthrough content. Finally, I'm not sure how well the mask/trophy boxes would display on mobile, especially when inside an infobox.

However, if you prefer to have the boxes inside the infobox, let me know and I'll edit the infobox template to resemble what I linked above.

    • Actually, what you suggested is great. I took a look at Walkthrough:I Smell a Rat, and it looks perfect, so while we're working on creating trophy sections, at least they won't look out of place.

And yeah, the infoboxes already have the capability to contain the Sly mask count within them, so we can do that too.

      Thanks!

  • Hello I wanted to invite you to the http://somewhat.wikia.com/wiki/SomeWhat_Wiki Somewhat wiki. It is a friendly site where you can make pages about your favorite characters and make there backstory's comical, or make your own characters. Now go check out the site yourself with the link I put for you, thanks.

  • I think I first saw it a few days ago but brushed it off thinking it was a display error, but I was just taking a look at Bentley/Gallery and noticed it was still happening; the images in the galleries are much lower than they should be, resulting in the bottom half of the image being cut off. Maybe it's just my device. Do you see it as well?

      Loading editor
    • I'm not sure I see it.. Can you post a screenshot? Is it only happening on Bentley's gallery?

        Loading editor
    • Oh, it must have been my device. I don't own a desktop PC, so unless I'm at my parents house (which I am right now; my mother just had surgery and she needs help around the house so I came over this morning) I use - wait for it - a PS4 to edit this wiki. Since I'm on PC right now, it's not displaying incorrectly.

I wonder what changed to screw the galleries up like that.

  • Hello a few other users and I have been having a disagreement about whether or not there should be categories about characters place in the animal kingdom(mammals, birds, reptiles, etc). Please go to the thread I made(it is called animal class categories, and is under the forum wiki discussion) and write your opinion on the topic(read what we have already). If you have any questions write it on the thread or my message wall, thanks.

  • So, what are your thoughts on the new community page? Personally, I think it's a good idea, and they've said it will be more editable in the future, which is good (since the welcome message doesn't really work: "Welcome to Sly Cooper Wiki," with no "the").

Personally though, I don't like the rankings. It encourages pointless edits and can make people feel inferior (people are people), and those reasons are likely why we don't have achievements activated on this wiki (which is a good thing, in my opinion). People have been talking about the rankings at Community Wikia since the feature was implemented, so perhaps it will be made optional in the future.

Oh, also, I think that it needs way to feature a blog post or something along those lines, because right now all it consists of is the rankings and insights, making it mostly redundant.

    • It's a nice concept, definitely want to see more customization. Specifically, something like generating a list of pages based on whether or not the pages have a template/category (clean up, images needed, stub, etc.) As for the ranking, I can't imagine it being a problem here given the relatively small community and the lack of reward like there are with achievements. I guess we'll have to see how it turns out though.

By the way, how long has this "Top links" section been around? I barely noticed it today. Did Wikia ever announce/mention it?

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, more customization would definitely be helpful. And I see your point on rankings.

Top Links appeared maybe three weeks ago. I did not like it at all, however, for me it's been gone for maybe a week. Strange that you're seeing it but I'm not.

  • So, I just wanted to say that the Navboxes look great. However, there seems to be some issues with them, mostly with text coloration. Perhaps you've noticed that the main link (the title) is blue, like other links (which blends in with the blue bar), whereas with the old navboxes we had the titles colored white. I tried to color the text using "<font color=white></font>" but it didn't do anything. Am I doing this wrong, or is there something in the navbox code that is overwriting font coloration?

Similarly, within the navboxes, links to "Cooper Gang" and whatnot are blue as well, which looks strange compared to the black of, say, "Antagonists."

    Thanks for your time.

      Loading editor
    • Should be fixed now. Also made the links inside the boxes black as you requested. Let me know how it looks on your end!

        Loading editor
    • Looks great. Except... (Sorry, haha.)

The links in the "below" field are now black instead of blue. Is it possible to switch that back?

And also, since you know more about templates and wiki coding than I do, what do you think about "this" (EDIT: removed link, previously a redlink to show page creation)? Look at the top area. Creating new pages of a certain type (like jobs and characters) should be easier now.

        Loading editor
    • Ah, sorry about that. I changed it back.
As for the preloads, nothing much to say since it looks pretty good. Just a minor thing is the sentence at the beginning - it's likely that they won't always have followed a red link, so maybe change the wording somehow. Other than that, though, it's a good idea.

  • What does it take to become an admin or a bureaucrat? I'd love to contribute as much as possible to this great wikia.

      Loading editor
    • Before becoming an admin, a user will (usually) need to be a moderator. To do that, just contribute quality content often (I didn't make mod until I had something like 500 edits), and don't be antagonistic.

That being said, the Wiki is calm enough that we don't need any new mods at the moment. Secondly, you don't need mod rights to contribute; very few, if any, pages are locked from basic user editing.

Also, Mousekat is a somewhat inactive admin, so if you have any questions, feel free to leave them on my message wall.

    • That's cool. I'll keep on editing until I'm good enough to become a mod

  • Could you perhaps upload an .ico file that has transparency? Or is that not something you can do with .ico files?

Also, is the recent activity log totally empty for you too?

      Loading editor
    • Sorry, somehow I didn't notice that. I'll try and reupload with transparency.

Yeah, it is. I think it has to do with me mass deleting unused files (something I finally got around to after forever). The Special:WikiActivity only records up to 50 changes so when I deleted all those files in such a short time it "overloaded" it or something. That's my guess.
Although I didn't delete them all, I won't be back to finish it for a while. Feel free to finish it up ;)

Long time no talk, btw. Nice job keeping this wiki up on its feet. :)

    • Thanks.

Yeah, FireSlug told me about those scripts, so I started doing that the other day. I'll definitely work on it.

    • Ok, it should be transparent now. Are you useing a dark browser theme and that's how you noticed it? Whether you are or not thanks for pointing it out. If you want to change it back or to something different, feel free. ttyl!

      Happy Holidays :-)

    • Happy Holidays!

I'm just using Chrome, and I noticed that it wasn't transparent because I had several tabs open, and the non-active tabs are a light blue rather than white.
