Clockwerk held a great hatred over the Cooper Clan family line and the chip used this hatred as fuel for his mechanical parts. When Sly and Clockwerk fought over the Krack-Karov Volcano, the Hate Chip saved Clockwerk's parts from the intense heat of the volcano, keeping them in perfect shape even after the violent battle.
After Neyla bonded with the Clockwerk frame in Sly 2: Band of Thieves and became Clock-La, Bentley heard her mention the chip in her boasting and deduced it as the source of her power. After a lengthy battle that brought Clock-La to the ground, the Hate Chip was stomped on and destroyed by Carmelita Fox. Shortly after its destruction, the remaining Clockwerk parts began to rust and decay, except for the Clockwerk Eye, which mysteriously ended up in a safe in the ice age.
- It is currently unknown how Clockwerk came to posses the Hate Chip, as such technology wasn't invented back in the ancient times.
- After the hate chip was destroyed, Sly noted the irony of Carmelita saving a bloodline of master thieves from Clockwerk.
